Part Five
Discovering Truth
âIâm so glad to be home. I donât want to think or do anything. I just want to sleep, Chandler.â
âAre you hungry?â
âNo.â
âCome,â Chandler said, as he led her to their bedroom. Angel stood motionless as Chandler moved toward their bathroom to prepare her bath. Her tears flowed freely when he returned.
âChandler, Iâm sorry . . ..â
âLetâs not talk about it now. Just try to relax,â he said, leaving her to her own devices in the bathroom.
After a long, hot bath, Angel returned to the bedroom to find a glass of wine and an Ambien tablet on the nightstand.
âWhatâs this?â Angel asked, slowly placing the pill in her mouth as she consumed the entire glass of wine. âYouâre not trying to kill me, are you?â
âNo, Iâm not trying to kill you. A little something to help you rest. Lie down.â
âIt would definitely solve all of our problems.â
âThatâs absurd, Angel. Just lie down and try to get some sleep.â
Within a few minutes, she was completely relaxed and overcome with emotion.
âChandler, I didnât mean for this to happen. What have I done?â
Chandler remained quiet, opting to cradle her in his arms as she bared her soul.
âI love you, Chandler. I was just tired of feeling invisible . . . like I didnât exist. I thought you didnât love me, and that you were only here because of the girls. I needed you, Chandler, and you werenât there,â she sobbed. The Ambien and the wine were like a truth serum.
Chandler continued to stroke her hair in silence, allowing her to continue. When she didnât, he finally spoke.
âGet it all out, Angel.â
âStop being so nice to me, Chandler. Why arenât you angry? Do you even care? How can you even stand to even look at me?â she yelled, as she struggled to escape his embrace. âThis is exactly what Iâve been saying all along . . . I donât understand you, Chandler!â
âLet me know when youâre done.â
After a few moments of continuous tears, she finally spoke.
âI donât have anything else to say.â
âThen I need you to listen,â he said softly. âDo you remember when we first metâhow painfully shy I was, and how hard it was for me to express my feelings to you?â
âYes, I remember. It was sort of cute at first, but then I began to think you werenât attracted to me.â
âWow. I never knew that. But trust me, that was not the case. Before I met you, Iâd had my share of women . . . their bodies. However, I never desired to have their minds. With you, it was different. I wanted all of you.â
Angelâs tears were flowing again.
âHalf the time I was lost for words and nearly paralyzed at the thought of making a fool of myself. I finally found the nerve to ask you out to the movies, and you said yes. I think I fell in love with you on our first date.â
âYouâre kidding, right?â
âNo, Iâm not. I couldnât wait to take you home to meet my parents, but you were dead set against it.
